Beth Umland is Director of Research for Mercer’s Health business. Beth and her staff oversee all survey research conducted by the Health business, including Mercer’s flagship National Survey of Employer-Sponsored Health Plans. She writes or edits reports that are used widely by employers, the healthcare industry, the media, and health policymakers. Beth helped to establish the healthcare survey in 1986 while working as a communication consultant for Foster Higgins. She became research director for Foster Higgins in 1992, developing a roster of surveys on various employee benefit topics. When that firm merged with Mercer in 1996, she transitioned the key surveys to Mercer. She now serves both internal clients (consultants who need timely, reliable data to inform their work with employers) as well as researchers in the public and private sectors.
